The move, in brief

Los Angeles to Orange County is a local move with a longer drive in the middle — close enough to bill hourly like a job across town, far enough that the freeway choice decides how long the middle takes. We load in LA, drive south on whichever of the 5, the 605, the 91, or the 405 is moving that hour, and unload in Orange County the same day, with the clock running from pickup to placement.

What changes south of the county line is the rulebook. A lot of Orange County lives behind an HOA gate with move-in windows and vendor access forms, the beach cities have lanes a full-size truck cannot turn into, and the newer townhomes come with three flights of stairs. We ask about all of it when we quote, so the crew arrives with the right truck, the right gate code, and the right number of people.

How this move runs, step by step

Before

Your quote

Tell us the rooms, the stairs, and both addresses, and we set the crew size and the hourly rate — from $139 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Hourly means the total depends on time, so accurate access details are the difference between an estimate and a surprise.

Move day · Los Angeles

Load

The crew arrives in your window, protects the floors and doorways, wraps the furniture, and loads in the order that unloads fastest. Parking and any building paperwork were handled in advance, because on an hourly move every minute at the curb is your minute.

Move day · Orange County

Drive and unload

Down the freeway and through the gate — code and HOA window already confirmed. We carry, place, reassemble beds and tables, and do a final walk-through. The clock stops when the last piece is where you want it.

Origin

Los Angeles County

Efficient curb, efficient bill

On an hourly move, a truck parked two blocks away costs you real money. We confirm where the truck sits on your LA street before the day, post signs where your city requires them, and plan the load path so the crew never waits on the street.

DESTINATION

Arriving in Orange County

HOA windows and gate access

From Irvine villages to Ladera Ranch, most Orange County communities publish move-in hours, require a vendor form or certificate before a truck passes the gate, and limit where it can park. We collect the requirements at quote time and time the arrival to the window.

Apartment buildings and their elevators

Many LA buildings will not release a freight elevator without a certificate of insurance, and most limit move-outs to set hours. Send the management requirements with your quote and both are arranged ahead of time.

Beach-city truck limits

The Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Island, and parts of Huntington and Laguna run on lanes and alleys built before moving trucks were this size. Where a full-size truck cannot reach the door, we stage a smaller shuttle truck and plan the transfer into the day.

Two pickups, one trip

LA to OC moves often start at an apartment and a storage unit, or an apartment and a parent's garage. Tell us every stop when you quote and we sequence them into one efficient route instead of a second trip.

Three-story townhomes and business parks

Newer OC townhomes put the living room on the second floor and the bedrooms on the third; Irvine and Costa Mesa office parks want certificates of insurance and dock times. Either way we bring the crew size the stairs or the dock schedule calls for.

County-to-county moves load and deliver the same day on one truck, billed hourly from pickup to placement.

What this move costs

Los Angeles to Orange County moves bill hourly — from $139 per hour with a three-hour minimum — from the moment the crew arrives in LA until the last item is placed in Orange County, drive included. Home size sets the crew size and most of the time; the freeway hour and the access at both ends set the rest.

from $139/hr
3-hour minimum · billed from pickup to placement, drive included

Typical hourly ranges for local moves; the cross-county drive can add an hour to these.

Home size Typical range Crew
Studio / 1-bedroom $450–$900 2 movers
2-bedroom $1,000–$1,500 3 movers
3-bedroom+ $1,500–$3,000+ larger crews

What moves the number:

  • Crew size — two movers for a studio, three or more for a house; the right size is usually the cheaper one
  • The drive — an hour on a clear freeway, two in the afternoon crawl; we schedule around it
  • Access at both ends — stairs, elevators, gates, and how close the truck gets to each door
  • Packing — packed and labeled boxes load fast; loose items do not
  • Specialty items — pianos, safes, gym racks, and anything that needs hoisting
  • Timing — month-end, weekends, and summer book first and can carry a surcharge

I am so happy I went with 4US Moving! I moved from LA County out to the Palm Desert. Dau and his teammate were courteous, speedy, and professional. The amount of care they took prepping before loading my furniture and TVs surprised me. And they didn’t hesitate to go the extra mile when they unloaded into my new place. I highly recommend.

I needed movers from Orange County to San Diego and 4US Moving were fast to respond and had the best rates. Before booking, they answered all my questions to ensure I had everything I needed for my move. They were super fast and efficient, especially considering I moved out of a 3-story home. They took care of my items and wrapped/unwrapped everything for me. They’re also really prepared - had door stoppers and various packing supplies for a speedy move. They made moving less stressful and I definitely recommend them!

I scheduled 3 movers with a truck to move out my house from long beach to north hollywood and the guys. I called them and Dennis picked the phone, we went straight to business figuring out my move and he is such a cool guy actually! I appreciate his patience with me because I had a piano and a designer furniture piece that is really heavy even for 3 movers, but the guys did a great job handling it upstairs for me, Roman, the leader of my crew is the man! Glad I chose the right company, even though their quote was higher than other local movers but I got Dennis on the call and he explained to me the whole pricing structure as to why their quote appears higher while in reality it is because it's an all inclusive quote basically from the start and they include all packing supplies actually which I loved about this experience!

I moved from South Orange County to Los Angeles and needed help moving due to busy life schedule. This company provided exceptional service. It was easy to work with their team and they were efficient with their time. The rate was good in my opinion for the type of service you get. They ensured that all items were packed with care for transit. I would definitely recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to move from Los Angeles to Orange County?

It bills hourly, from $139 per hour with a three-hour minimum, and the clock runs from pickup in Los Angeles to placement in Orange County, drive included. Most moves land in the typical local ranges above; the freeway hour is the main thing that pushes them toward the top of a range.

Is LA to Orange County a local move or a long-distance move?

A local one. It stays inside neighboring counties and runs as one truck, one crew, and one day, so it bills by the hour like any other local job. Moves to San Diego or the Bay Area are the ones that switch to flat-rate long-distance pricing.

Do you handle HOA rules and gate access in Orange County?

Yes — it is most of the Orange County work. Send the community requirements, gate codes, and move-in window when you quote and the crew arrives inside the window with the paperwork already filed.

Can you pick up from a storage unit on the way?

Yes. Tell us every stop when you quote — apartment, storage unit, a relative's garage — and we sequence them into one route so you pay for one efficient trip rather than two.

Do you also move from Orange County to Los Angeles?

Constantly, and at the same hourly rate — see our Orange County to Los Angeles route for the northbound details.
